3rd Regional Minister
Role Description
Overarching Vision/Objective
The Regional Minister is a visible presence wherever possible and an advisory friend where needed, offering pastoral support to churches, ministers and leaders across the region.
Key Responsibilities
-
Supporting and helping SEBA’s Team Leader to implement SEBA’s mission support strategy;

Offering spiritual support, wisdom and advice to our churches where invited;

Collaborating with leaders and churches of all sizes in a wide range of development and missional activities, thinking creatively to find solutions and offer practical encouragement and support;
-
Advising and assisting churches and ministers through times of significant difficulty;
-
Leading specific projects and areas of work;
-
Supporting the Team Leader and other members of the Leadership Team as needed;
-
Maintaining strong working relationships with colleagues from the wider Baptist family around the country and from other denominations in our area.
Core Duties
Mission/Development
-
Encouraging and resourcing mission across the association;
-
Supporting and helping SEBA’s Team Leader to implement SEBA’s mission support strategy;
-
Facilitating churches in sharing resources and working together for mutual benefit and mission;
-
Supporting the Network Ministers in developing the Networks and supporting the churches within them;
-
Ensuring appropriate computerised record keeping of regional team contact with member churches;
-
Encouraging ministers, leaders and churches to work collaboratively in witnessing to the range of communities present in the region;
-
Promoting the work of the wider Baptist Union and Home Mission;
Ministerial Support
-
Providing pastoral care and support to Ministers and Leaders and their families both current and retired;
-
Providing pastoral care and support to Baptist Ministers working in other sectors;
-
Advising those who feel called to ministry;
-
Promoting Continuing Ministerial Development and advising on sabbatical programmes for Ministers;
-
Providing pastoral care and support to ministers looking for new roles or going into the settlement process;
-
Working with Baptist colleges in supporting Ministers in Training looking for placements;
-
Acting on behalf of the BU when appropriate and requested by the BUGB Ministries Team Leaders.
Church Support
-
Providing guidance and pastoral support to churches working through the settlement process;
-
Arranging the services of a Moderator when required;
-
Representing the Association at inductions and ordinations;
-
Providing assistance and support to churches in difficulty and/or in crisis situations;
-
Enabling ministers, leaders and congregations to identify and resolve their problems at an early stage;
-
Engaging with conflict within and between churches in a constructive and biblically sound way working towards reconciliation wherever possible;
-
Preaching, teaching and leading worship as requested.
Experience
-
A fully accredited Baptist Minister;
-
Experience in being a minister within a Baptist Church affiliated to the Baptist Union;
-
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationship with people from all backgrounds and views;
-
Good evidence of past mission activity.
Skills and Abilities
-
Good verbal and written communication skills;
-
Ability to use MS Office 365, emails and other appropriate IT software;
-
Ability to help churches discern a good mission strategy for their context;
-
Ability to keep appropriate records;
-
Full Driving licence and ability to travel both regionally and nationally.
Personal
-
A healthy devotional prayer life and pattern of spiritual discipline;
-
The ability to listen and the desire to learn.

Experience |

An accredited Minister of the Baptist Union of Great Britain
-
Significant experience in pastoring in a local Baptist church setting
-
At least three years' experience in regional or translocal ministry
-
Pastoral care of Ministers and churches
-
Team working and leadership

Arranging and enabling effective and inspirational training and other events for groups of ministers, leaders and churches

Formal training in pastoral counselling, negotiation and mediation

Knowledge |

A good theological education and commitment to continuous development

An understanding of Baptist principles, history and traditions
A thorough knowledge of mission and evangelism methods, of contemporary thinking and initiatives

An understanding of Christian denominations and other world faiths
-
An awareness of safeguarding issues, familiar with the BUGB Safeguarding Policies and appropriate responses to issues raised

An understanding of charity law, financial reporting, health & safety legislation and employment law
