Revd Joth Hunt
Jonathan (known as Joth) became a follower of Jesus at the age of seven and was baptised at Seaford Baptist Church when he was 15. He met Sue whilst a student at Kingston Polytechnic and after getting married they moved to Banbury, joining Southam Road Evangelical Church. Here they were encouraged in leading worship, children and youth ministry and various forms of outreach and Joth was invited to join their leadership team. The church also supported Joth during his three years at London Bible College.
On leaving LBC, he joined Viz-A- Viz initially as Secondary Schools worker in Chelmsford and then as their Director of Training and eventually their Executive Director. During this time Joth became more passionate about the role of the local Church in outreach and began to explore the possibility of becoming a Baptist minister. He was called initially to pastor a small church in Harlow, which grew gradually over an eight-year period. Joth says “I learnt a lot during this period about walking with various people into faith as well as pastoring and discipling a smaller church into greater health. Seeing others flourish and grow excited me and I found God laying a desire in my heart to be more involved in equipping others in ministry.”
A move to Eastleigh Baptist offered an opportunity to serve a larger congregation and team and to encourage and equip more people in ministry and mission. As well as developing and delivering a large element of the church’s teaching programme, overseeing the pastoral care and supporting and directing the church’s ministry and leadership team, Joth initiated a discipleship mentoring scheme called the Barnabas Network. He was a member of the Director and Management Team of Eastleigh Baptist’s community centre and cafe called Wells Place Centre.
During his sabbatical in 2016, God place a desire in Joth’s heart to “encourage the hearts of the saints” (Philemon v7) which eventually led him to accepting God’s call into a regional role with the Southern Counties Baptist Association. As a Regional Minister he has served 50 churches and has been their lead for mission development, pioneering, communication and mentoring as well as overseeing the ministerial recognition process. He has completed the Bridgebuilders Transforming Conflict Course and has published a series of articles on Missional Leadership through The Seventy-Two Network.
Joth joined the SEBA Team in the summer of 2022, as Regional Minister Team Leader.
Joth and Sue have an adult son, Tim. Joth supports Liverpool FC, enjoys watching national league football, meeting up with friends, running at the local park run, walking by the sea and drinking quality Fairtrade Coffee!
